The senior National team, Likuena, is named after the royal clan of Bakuena. Likuena, loosely translated as crocodiles in English is a youthful team that is made of players from the under 20 and under 23 National sides including the previous Likuena players.

 

Likuena, the pride of Basotho nation is a team that has great potential and is an investment in Lesotho football.  It is groomed to qualify for the 2008 African Nation’s Cup and the World Cup in 2010.

Last games

In year 2000, Likuena pulled a brilliant perfomance whereby it was a finalist in the COSAFA Castle Cup.  The deciding game was against Zimbabwe, score Lesotho lost 3-0 home, and 3-0 away. Coaches were Mr. Monyane and Mr. M. Matete while Mr. Masimong was Goal Keeper Coach. 

In these games which were played in Zambia (June 2005) Lesotho lost 2-1 to Malawi.

Capacity Building

For the first time, a foreign coach (Mr. Tony Hey) came into picture late in 2004, with the intention of building a team to compete in 2008 Cup of Nations to be held.
