LeFA mourn the passing of Styles Phumo
The Lesotho Football Association is mourning the passing away of former Lesotho National team head Coach April Styles” Phumo. The 74 year old succumbed to cancer on Sunday, 27 November 2011.
“This is a difficult time for his family and friends and as the Football Association we would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family and football fraternity.
He was one of the best coaches in this country and was a great educator and he will be dearly missed,” said the Lesotho Football Association 2nd Vice President Khiba Mohoanyane.
Styles coached the Lesotho national team as well as the famous Arsenal side of the 80s and early 90s before a spell with Bloemfontein Celtic.
He has also coached Ria Stars, the South African Under 20 and 23 Men’s national teams.
In 2000, he was appointed head coach of South African senior national team Bafana Bafana ahead of the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
He was then assistant coach to Troth Moloto in the following edition of the African Cup of nation’s tournament held in Nigeria in 2002.
He was 74 when he died and has also coached South African first division sides United FC and Atlie FC.
Phumo will be late to rest in Bloemfontein on December 10.
