Notsi thrilled as Lesotho climb rankings
Lesotho national team coach Leslie Notsi heaped praise on his team as well as the Lesotho Football Association hierarchy for their supportive roles that has seen the national team moving –up 14 places in the recent FIFA rankings.
The latest rankings released by the Football governing body FIFa, Likuena had moved fourteen places thanks largely to brave 3-2 aggregate win over Burundi in the recent 2014 World cup qualifiers.
Lesotho beat Burundi 1-0 in the first leg match played in Maseru on November 11, and followed that with a two all draw in the second leg match played in Bujumbura.
“We worked hard for it and the players were amazing in the two matches both at home and in Burundi,” said Notsi.
“It is not by luck that we have moved from position 168 in the world to the current 148. We worked hard for it and we are getting results. We have already beaten Botswana, currently ranked 93 in the world and 22 in Africa.”
“However, we must not get carried away. There is a long way to go with this team, starting with the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifiers early next year as well as the group stages of the 2014 world cup qualifiers where they will meet Ghana, Zambia and Sudan,” said the coach. |
