The Lesotho Football Association is re-launching countrywide mini-leagues for children under the age of 15 years.
LeFA’s Youth Development Officer, Tjamela Tjamela said the revival of the leagues is meant to ensure talent among children is nurtured at an early age and also that the kids remained active, football-wise, throughout the year.
“We realized that players are no longer being developed at an early age, the way it used to happen in the past. That is why we have to revive the leagues—the under-12s and under-15s—so as to nurture talent at the grassroots.”
“We have to go to the schools and to catch the girls and boys at primary levels, before they even graduate to high schools. Restructuring of school sport and let it sync with our own football programmes but at the same time let it be competitive like it used to be in the past,” said Tjamela.
